Love in the Arena:
Chapter 2

My eyes flicker repeatdly until I have a clear view of the strolling clouds. Before I can even speak, a gentle finger is placed over my lips, hushing me.. Even the slightest touch of Grimm is seductive. Could there be another tribute approaching? Then, Grimm springs out of the underbush and tackles a delicate doe. She falls to the ground in shock while Grimm holds her in a headlock. At the horror of the scene, I remember the fight for food. The innocent creature takes her last gasp of air as well as her last glimpse of Earth. Her head falls lifelessly to the ground. Grimm drags her into our home. He pulls out a knife, preparing to skin her, when he looks up at me.

"Morning." A ray of light catches his smile, making it hard to resist. He offers me half of a cracker for breakfast. We pack up all the things into his small pack and head out. Just about 20 feet from our home and he notices something in my hair.

"Glitter, why?" He picks out each strand, annd examines each piece. I shoe him away, even though I have been dying for that attention.

"Cause my name's Shimmer."  Then look back on our trail and see the shiney specks of glitter glowing on the ground. In both of our minds, we register danger. It leaves a trail. "I have to get them out." He takes my hand and guides me to a stream . I walk across the sand to the water. I bend over the bank to rinse my dark hair. Suddenly, water engulfs me. I rise above the surface and notice Grimm laughing, for he has pushed me it. He is sitting dangerously near the bank, so I tug on his collar and pull him in with me. We are both giggling away, when I realize how deep this stream is. I quickly grasp his shoulders.

"I..I can't swim," I say foulishly. I never got around to learning how. He pulls me in closer so that I bsiclly hug his chest.

"Just hold on." I trust him. He has that comfortable feeling. I look up at him to see the secruity of his eyes. Then, our lips meet. I wrap my legs around his waist and weave my skinney fingers though his wet hair. My heart skips a beat, but I don't mind. There's a fluttery feeling where my stomach used to be. I feel his passion for me. I can't help but think this is a great danger. I peel off for air when I see half a human behind a tree, but most importantly, with a arrow already loaded.  I scream at Grimm.

"Grimm!" He dunks us both underwater, but he swims toward the bank. I try follow but I stay clear of the surface. I peek into the murky waters. Where's Grimm? I pop up for his sake. I see the tribute fling an arrow into Grimm's arm, but he jabs a knife into her back.  I stumble out of the water and sprint over to Grimm. While she whimpers in pain, I attend to his wound. He pulled the arrow out, but it's still a pretty deep wound.  I take what the girl had in her belt: a bag of berries and water purifiers. He walks himself over to another bush where we will make camp tonight. I reach into the backpack and retrieve our only hope: bandages. I wrap the hole up. The whole time he just stares at me. He finally speaks up when I finish.

"I'm sorry. I almost go you killed." He seems to regret the kiss, only for my safety.

"No, it's not your fault. I mean, we're in the arena. No where is perfectly safe." I unpack the meat from the pack.

"Well your safety comes before my needs." The I decide to spill the secret.

"And my needs." I shrug my shoulders lightly and he smiles. We start the smallest fire imaginable to cook the deer. After the 30 minutes of absolute hunger, we dig in. It's been a week since we've been treated with good meat. That was last at the Capitol. I remember my canister which needs to be attended to. I walk myself to the stream, fill the water and purify it. I look back at the place where the tribute he killed die. I bring the water back to Grimm. He really needs to be hydrated because of the wound. We finished eating and we just sit close to each other, preparded for the cold night. The sky starts to fade into orange, pink, and yellow, but the beauty is interrupted by the Capitol Seal. There are only three faces tonight. The girl who shot Grimm, the boy with the highest traingin score, and the girl from district 9. Then the sky returns with little barely any bright colors.

"How many people are left anyway?"

"About 15 including us." Us. For some reasons, that makes me feel safe. The darkness consumes us just as the water did today. I offer to take the first shift again. This time he rejects.I lie down closer to him tonight. He flattens the jacket on my torso, and then the deer skin over than. I take one last look at the sky. The stars shining like my glitter did.

I'm am disturbed in my slumber. Something light gentaly touches my temple. The touch is familiar. I recognize it, cupid's arrow. My heart is going crazy once more. A goodnight kiss. I peek my eyes open slighty to see him looking into the distance, being awareful .But something illuminates the night. Not just his eyes, but something round, silver and puffy. Before I could even begin to think of what it was, my dreams weaken my consciousness.
